Man United unbeaten domestic run finally comes to end as they are sent crashing back down to Earth by solid Arsenal

United were coming off the back of a memorable European night, having beaten Paris Saint-Germain in midweek to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Xhaka (12'minutes), Aubameyang (69'minutes pen) scored the goals that took their team above United and a point behind their fiercest rivals Spurs. As a result Man United is edged out of the Champions League top four.

Sead Kolasinac was the man of the match, a constant threat from left wing-back, closely followed by goalkeeper Bernd Leno who was both quick-witted and brave in repelling Manchester United’s forwards.

Danny Mills, former Leeds United and England defender,  speaking on BBC said:

Arsenal are just one point and one goal behind Tottenham now. It's all getting congested at the top. The race for the top four is on.

Arsenal put in a fabulous performance today. They showed character and steel after a poor performance on Thursday.

For Manchester United, maybe it was a step too far after their exertions on Wednesday night.

I thought Arsenal had the edge throughout the whole game. They controlled it.

Romelu Lukaku's miss early in the game set the tone really and a part from that Bernd Leno wasn't tested - and every time he was he matched it.

On balance, Arsenal deserved to win it.

Massive because the winner of these type of games gets the motivation and drive needed for the tough run ahead.

While this is disappointing for United, this is only the first time Ole Gunnar Solskjaer loses domestically since replacing Jose Mourinho as Man United’s manager, a truly amazing achievement still.
